Sarah had attended St. Edward the Confessor, the Roman Catholic church in Chandler’s Ford, since childhood. So it was lovely that she and James chose to get married there in late June. They met at university in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. James showed himself to be a true friend in need and, over time, deeper feelings deepened.

Guests enjoyed the June sunshine before taking their seats in the deceptively-spacious church. Consecrated in 1938, it was enlarged in the late 1980s . Accompanied up the aisle by her proud father, Sarah wore a sleeveless silk gown with delicate beading around the neckline. She carried a bouquet of irises, thistles and white roses.

The colourful stained glass behind the altar made a stunning backdrop to the vows made by the couple. After signing the registers in the side-chapel, the newlyweds emerged from the church to a confetti shower.

Celebrations continued at Marwell Hotel with drinks on the terrace. After group photos, it was time romantic portraits in the grounds of the hotel. Sarah and James had taken lessons in preparation for their first dance, and they were keen to show off their routine ; they were impressive!

The speeches revealed the moving story of their love for each other, and the affection in which their families held them. When James asked his prospective father for permission to marry Sarah, his reaction was ‘About time!’.

After the meal and further photos, it was time for Sarah and James to take the dance floor; they wowed their assembled guests with their moves. Sarah’s father took the place of James for the next number; he too turned out to have snake hips! It was a great way to get evening celebrations underway. Sarah, James and their families will treasure memories of their wedding day for years to come.
