Annabelle and Oli chose the Naval and Military Club, better known as the In and Out, in London’s St. James’s Square for their champagne wedding reception – and my photography services for their day. With its grand staircase and panelled staterooms, the Club feels like a small corner of the Empire on which the sun has yet to set.
This followed their nuptials in the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace in London, which is steeped in history. Queen Elizabeth I prayed in its west-end gallery while the Royal Navy, led by Sir Francis Drake, fought the Spanish Armada. Queen Victoria was married there in 1840. In 2018 the baptism of Prince Louis, third in line to the throne, took place there. And just before I published this, Sienna, the daughter of Princess Beatrice and Eduardo Mapelli-Mozzi, was also baptised over its font.
Annabelle and Oli’s wedding took place beneath its richly-decorated ceiling on the day that Storm Eunice hit the UK, in February 2022. Owing to its royal status, I’m not permitted to share wedding photos from the Chapel here. But if you ask while enquiring about booking me to photograph your wedding, that’s a different matter…
And take it from me, they are gorgeous!
As is my custom, I asked lots of guests at the wedding reception if they would like a quick photo of themselves and their partners and friends. They all said yes and can now download the results from the online gallery I shared with Annabelle and Oli – all part of the service.
At sunset, I was able to take Annabelle and Oli out to the small garden in St. James’s Square for romantic portraits. Her dress was still billowing in the wind, and there were lots of twigs on the ground, but otherwise the storm had passed.
Having started the day at the In and Out Club with lots of hair and make-up shots with Annabelle and her bridesmaids, as well as the four of them relaxing with a glass of bubbly, I finished the day there with more family formals on the grand staircase in the Club, including one with all 100+ guests.
